SAFELY LIVING LIFE SO IT DOESN'T GO AWAY
AND GET OUT OF HAND

Life is too important for us
to let go of it too easily
by accident or negligence.
So maintain your tightest maintenance
and compulsively obsessive vigilence
to keep alive your acquaintenanceship
with that existentially essential entity
we worshipfully call life
and don't let it carelessly slip
from your strenuous clenched grip
and scatter itself like a vase
with its bouquet of flowers falling loutishly out
leaf by leaf and bloom by bloom
all over the disarrayed room
to upset the neatly arranged carpet
and all the chairs where you used to snugly sit
near no receptacle in which to eject a polite spit
which society would reject as not fit.
I'd already learned the finesse when to quit
bad behavior and not to repeat it.
It's uncouth to irresponsibly spit.
So I keep a dry mouth to when I drink
with a breath sweetener so my alcohol doesn't stink
except when I'm fortunately near the kitchen sink.
Life is so dear, I dare not wink.
It's bother enough to have to repeatedly think.
